Who we are

The Greenstones Team

We are an international group with diverse backgrounds and cultures. What unites us is our interest in creating a down-to-earth, practical and inspiring centre where people can re-charge, re-connect, and be re-inspired. We are dedicated to low-impact living and are committed to operating Greenstones in a way that is sustainable in the long-term.

What we do

Run retreats and courses

We have a regular programme of Tai Chi, Qigong and and Yoga retreats and courses. We offer some of them ourselves, while others are presented by world-class teachers such as Master Wu.

Ecology

We work with organic gardening, eco-building, renewable energy, wetland restoration and sustainable foresty as part of our commitment to ‘living lightly’. We've done our best at Greenstones to place our yurts, gardens, water treatment ponds in such a way as to have a minimum impact on the land. For example we've removed planted Norwegian spruce trees and made room for the native oaks and Scots Pine to thrive. Above all, we've taken our time to try and work with this beautiful rocky landscape as much as possible to preserve its power and beauty.

Host groups

We welcome enquiries from organisations or individuals wishing to use us as a venue for their residential courses and meetings for groups of up to 16 people. We have a unique meeting space (The Group Yurt) and ‘close to nature’ yurt and farmhouse accommodation set in a beautiful, peaceful island landscape. We can provide delicious organic vegetarian meals, and our nature spa facilities are a great way to relax after a day of group sessions.

Philosophy

The ancient Daoist (Taoist) tradition from China is a great source of inspiration at Greenstones. Daoism is a way of deep reflection and of learning from nature, considered the highest teacher. Traditionally, Daoists lived a simple life and concentrated on finding balance and flow in all that they did. This simple, and yet profound, attitude is every bit as relevant today as it was 3,000 years ago.

Daoist philosophy emphasises the importance of flexibility, openness and a non-dogmatic view of life. Above all it encourages us to be aware of what we don't know, and thereby maintain our humility.

"Let nature take its course. By letting each thing act in accordance with its own nature, everything that needs to be done gets done.
―Laozi, Dao De Jing 道德经
